About Vidorra

The most difficult day on our 3-year sailing journey has arrived.  It is the day we put our beloved Lagoon 380 catamaran, Vidorra, on the market.  When we first set sail from the United States in October 2015, we had only planned to travel for one year.  That one year turned into three as we found ourselves addicted to the nomadic lifestyle of sailing to endless beautiful islands, meeting remarkable people and cultures from all over the world, and having adventures of a lifetime all while living in the comfort of our own home.  Vidorra took us comfortably and safely to incredible places that we never knew existed.  Places that are not even mentioned in travel guides and where tourists don’t exist.  And watching our baby grow into a toddler with the ocean and beaches doubling as his classroom and playground has been nothing short of amazing.  Living on Vidorra has been a spectacular experience and one we will cherish forever.

So why in the world would we sell our boat?  Well, for us, this journey was never meant to be retirement and it’s time to get back to work.   We live by the motto, “Work hard, play hard”, and while we have worked over this 3-year period, we have also played A LOT and it’s time to put our nose to the grind so we can one day embark on a new family adventure.

Now to tell you all about why we love our sailboat.  The Lagoon 380 is one of the most popular production catamarans ever produced for a reason.  We fell in love with the design of the Lagoon which comprises a spacious salon with a sweeping 360 degree view and a large sliding door and window from the galley to the cockpit, perfect for entertaining or communicating to the helmsman while underway.   Vidorra has a simple and efficient deck layout with ample room on the side decks making it safe and easy to move about the outside of the boat.  And the huge trampoline is wonderful for sunbathing, star gazing, drinking cocktails or exercising.  The helm station gives way to unobstructed fore and aft views, is comfortable for two and all sail handling lines are easily accessed from the protection of the cockpit.  The large engine rooms are located in the aft scoops which allows for easy access to perform engine maintenance and keeps heat and noise out of the interior.

Vidorra is the perfect size boat for our family of four, and extremely spacious with 4 cabins, 2 heads, and endless storage found throughout the boat.  She can sleep up to 10 people (2 in each cabin and the salon table turns into a bed).  We have sailed Vidorra over 10,000 nautical miles as we circumnavigated the Caribbean and have not once questioned her seaworthiness.  Vidorra has under 4 feet draft which means she can enter shallow depths that most sailboats are not able to enter.

This Lagoon is beautiful and ready to go cruising. Vidorra underwent a complete refit in 2015 with an investment of over $100,000 and, although she was built in 2003, she might as well be a new boat.  We invested a lot in Vidorra to make sure she was a comfortable home for our family and ready for extended cruising.   You can read all the details of the upgrades below, but the highlights include 2 new Yanmar diesel engines, new standing and running rigging, new 680 watt solar panels, new bimini and dodger, new Raymarine MFD and radar, entirely new state of the art electrical system, new underwater lights, new teak cockpit table, new trampoline, new salon upholstery, new bedding in all cabins, and a new dinghy 18 hp engine.  The new engines have been meticulously maintained and the engine rooms are spotless. She has been hauled out each year to perform top to bottom servicing including new rudder bearings, saildrive servicing, bottom paint and wax and polishing. She comes with too many spares to mention including ground tackle, 3 robust anchors, 400 ft of chain with another 400 ft of 1 inch rode, a new spare alternator, and the list goes on and on.

For additional living comfort and system reliability we installed a robust top of the line electrical charging system. This enables the use of heavy electrical loads with multiple laptops, microwave, water heater, Air conditioning or convection oven. The system combines 750ah of AGM batteries for the house, with balmar alternator, external regulators and centerfielder that enables charging from both engines simultaneously for a combined total of 275AH of charging! Additionally, we installed Blue Sea ACRs that enable charging of all 3 battery banks simultaneously, or jumping one engine or the other from other battery banks. Never worry about a dead battery again.

We are currently wrapping up our cruising season in the Bahamas and plan to sail Vidorra to the East Coast of the United States during the summer of 2018.  Please contact us if you are interested in learning more about Vidorra and have a desire to own a fantastic, seaworthy vessel.
